Creative Connections: The 2015 Writing and Meditation Retreat was in Kailua

If you are looking for ways to reinvigorate your writing and creativity through proven techniques, we encourage you to apply for our unique writing retreat for academics. You will not only be amazingly productive during the retreat, but you also will learn techniques and strategies that will last you a lifetime of writing.

Writing and Meditation Retreat Dates: March 22 to 28, 2015
Location: Kailua, Hawai‘i. Ke Ohana Hale House.
The retreat site is 15 miles from Honolulu Airport and is accessible by taxi, car, or public transportation.

This academic writing retreat will use a combination of proven techniques to create a space that not only provides for productivity during this week, but that also teaches participants valuable skills you can use for the remainder of your career. Producing cutting-edge scholarship requires imaginative and creative abilities and this retreat is designed to maximize creativity.

Daily schedule:
7:00 to 8:00am: Breakfast and Morning Discussion.
As we sit down to eat, the hosts will spend a few minutes explaining one key concept related to creativity, productivity, and wellness.
Monday: Unplugging (Tanya)
Tuesday: Meditation (Ayu)
Wednesday: Nature (Ayu)
Thursday: Sleeping (Tanya)
Friday: Taking breaks (Tanya)
Saturday: Loving ourselves (Ayu)
8:00-8:30 Meditation with Ayu
8:30-11:00am: Focused writing time. Goal for each participant is to use the “Pomodoro Technique” to complete at least 4 “pomodoros” – each pomodoro consists of a 25-minute session with a 5-minute break.
11:00-12:30pm: Creative Connections time.
12:30pm-2pm: Lunch
Afternoon activities between 2:30pm and 6pm will vary
Monday:
2:30pm-3:30pm: How to write every day workshop (Tanya)
4pm-6pm: Walk to the beach and back.
Tuesday:
2:30-3:30pm: Yoga
4pm-6pm: Walk to the beach and back.
Wednesday:
2:30 to 6pm: Group field trip and hike
Thursday:
2:30-3:30pm: Yoga
4pm-6pm: Walk to the beach and back.
Friday:
2:30pm-3:30pm: Planning for success workshop (Tanya)
4pm-6pm: Walk to the beach and back.
6pm-7pm: Free time
7pm: Dinner
8pm: Free time.
9pm: Reading, conversation time. All electronics put to bed.
10:30pm: Lights out to promote sleep. Everyone should be asleep by 11pm to ensure at least 8 hours of sleep each night.
